AMERICAN“WAR EXPENDITURE MR PATTERSON DEFENDS DEPARTMENT (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) WASHINGTON, October 21. Facts completely reversed the picture of War Department waste and mishandling of public funds given by the Controller-General, Mr Warren, cabled on October 18, said the Under-Secretary to the Department, Mr Patterson, addressing the House Military Committee. Mr Patterson added that Mr Warren’s auditors had actually approved 99.5 per cent of the vouchers submitted by the War Department in the four months ended in August. Mr Patterson stoutly denied that the War Department contracting officers were inept and'inefficient, and dished out Government property and money with reckless abandon.
