ADOPTED SCHOOL

WHAREAMA VISITS CENTRAL. INTERESTING DAY ARRANGED. Recently the Wellington Education Board commenced a plan for the adoption of very small country schools by some of the larger schools with the idea of benefiting the small schools by various contacts. One of the means suggested was the encouragement of visits by the small schools to the large ones wherever possible. 'Yesterday, Whareama School pupils and their teacher (the adopted school of Central School) visited Masterton and the children spent the day under entirely new surroundings and undoubtedly gained much benefit therefrom. They arrived in time for the assembly and were introduced to the assembled children by the headmaster, Mr E. G. Coddington. They were much impressed by the short ceremonial proceedings and by the trumpet band. They than spent a good part of the morning in the classes to which they were attached and later were shown some films per medium of the school film-strip projector and were shown over the museum. This proved a most attractive place. Cocoa was provided for lunch and in the afternoon a further period was spent in the rcspec-1 live class rooms. In the latter part of the afternoon by courtesy of the "Times-Age” they were able to see how a newspaper is produced, including the .working of the linotype machines and the printing press which one tiny boy was allowed to start by pressing a button. The teacher. Miss Bloomfield, was able to discuss various matters with members of the Central staff and to see them in action. It. is hoped that further visits maj' be arranged later.
