RED CROSS SOCIETY INSPECTION OE V.A.D.’S. (“Times-Age” Special.) At the Town Hall on Saturday afternoon Miss 11. I. Crooke, Director-Gen-eral of Red Cross V.A.D.'s in New Zealand. inspected No. 3 detachment, which includes Carterton, G reylown. Martinborough, Kahutara, Pahautea and Silvers!ream. Mrs. G. S. Sharp, president of the local sub-centre of the Red Cross Society, extended a welcome to Mir.!: Crooke, who congratulated the units on their smart appearance and on their work. She urged all to continue their interest, in the work after lhe war. Afternoon tea was served. The hall was artistically decorated with bowls of (lowers, being the work of Mrs. Alexander. Mrs. Bergh arranged the bowls in the Red Cross rooms. Personal Items. Miss Gwen Donald, Palmerston North, is the guest of Miss B. Donald, “Tarurcka.” After having resided in Featherston for the past ten years, Mr. J. W. Mutter left on Saturday to reside at Huntly. Dance in Town Hall. There was a large attendance at the weekly dance held in the Town Hall on Saturday night. The music was supplied by an orchestra, and extras were played by Misses C. Saba, G. Fraser and N. Tucker. Mr. P. Habib was M.C. A Monte Carlo dance was won by Miss E. Davis and G. White. The supper tables were artistically decorated by Mrs. F. Alexander. Junior Red Cross Shop Day. The Junior Red Cross members of the Featherston District High School, assisted by the members of the South Featherston School, held a very successful shop day on Friday. The proceeds amounted to £4 10/In the Junior Red Cross examination in first aid held recently at the Featherston High School, eight members sat and all were successful. Record Rainfall. There was a record rainfall in September, since records have been kept, in 1931, there being 13.79 inches registered, with 21 days of rain. Vital Statistics. There were six deaths, two marriages and one death registered in September. COSY THEATRE “FLORIAN.” On Wednesday night there will be shown the brilliant drama “Florian,” a story of the glamorous days of Austria before the Great War, starring Robert Young, Helen Gilbert, Irina Baronova and Charles Coburn.
