CARTERTON

GOLDEN WEDDING MR. AND MRS. S. KAY. (“Times-Age” Special.) On celebrating the fiftieth anniversary of their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. S. Kay, well-known residents of Anderson’s Line, Carterton, received many messages of congratulation. Married on September 30, 1803, at Timaru, they lived in the South Island for some time before leaving for Carterton. where they have made their home for many years. An enjoyable gathering in honour of- the anniversary was held at their residence on Saturday last various members of the family being present. Mr. Kay was the second son of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Kay, and his wife was the second daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Woodley, well-known residents of Carterton. Six of the family are living. There are 19 grandchildren and five great-grand children. The health of Mr. and Mrs. Kay was proposed by their oldest son, William, and was toasted with enthusiasm. WOMEN’S DIVISION SUCESSFUL DANCE. A successful dance was held by the C arterton branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union on Saturday evening at the State Theatre. There was a large attendance and many fancy dresses were worn. The judging I of the custumes was carried out by Mrs. W. Moroney and Mr. G. S. George.. Misses Beryl Busby and Eeale were adjudged the best pair. The winner of the single costume was Mrs. H. Hodder. Mr. George James was M.C.

Personal Items. Miss Connie George, of Miramar, spent the weekend in Carterton. Mr. and Mrs. Clapcott, of Rexwood Street, Carterton, have returned home after having spent a holiday in northern towns. Mr. and Mrs. C. Larsen are spending a holiday at Titahi Bay. Spring Lambs, Drafts of spring lambs from the farms of Messrs. Colin Campbell and F. Yule have been ■ sent to Wellington. They were handled by Mr. V. L. Robinson. Special Train for Rotorua. A special train passed through Carterton yesterday morning conveying members of the Maori race to Ruatoria to a celebration that is being held there on Wednesday when the Victoria Cross won by a member of the Maori Battalion in the present war will be presented to his wife. The soldier lost his life in the war. Health Stamps. The sales of health stamps on Friday and Saturday amounted to £l7 12s, compared with 18s last year on the opening day. High School Committee, The monthly meeting of the Carterton District High School Committee will be held in the Holloway Street School at 7.30 o’clock tonight. Scout Card Party. The Boy Scouts held a card party on Saturday night. The prizes were won as follow: Ladies, Mrs. Carter 1, Mrs. F. Jackson senr., 2. Men: Mrs. Ticehurst 1, Mr. C. Holland 2.
