e AWARD TO UNITED STATES SUBMARINE. NINETEEN JAPANESE SHIPS SUNK. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) WASHINGTON, September 30. The award of a Presidential unit citation has been made to the United States submarine Gudgeon, for sinking 19 Japanese ships, including one submarine, and damaging three other ships in eight Pacific war patrols.
