RUGBY FOOTBALL
WAIRARAPA UNION MEETING. FINAL MEETING OF SEASON. The final meeting of the Wairarapa Rugby Football Union for the 1943 season was held at Carterton last evening. The treasurer’s statement disclosed a satisfactory credit balance. Lt.-Colonel W. H. Donaldson wrote expressing appreciation of the committee’s action in making football possible for members of the Army. Corpl. K. R. Mitchell thanked the Union for the assistance given to the Air Force. Mr. Dwyer was accorded thanks for his report on the visit to Pahiatua. At the conclusion of the meeting the secretary (Mr. H. A. McPhee) was the guest of honour at a social gathering at which Mr. J. F. Thompson, president of the Union, presided. In eulogising the services of Mr. McPhee, Mr. Thompson said that the Union had been very fortunate in having such a capable secretary. In appreciation o f his work as secretary and treasurer, he asked Mr. McPhee to accept a beautiful eiderdown quilt. Messrs. K. Fairbrother. Mr. K. H. Reid and R. Ward spoke in a similar strain. Mr. McPhee suitably replied.
