WEDDING MOORE—JAMES (“Times-Age” Special.) The marriage of Molly Kathleen, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs Lindsay James, Carterton, to Cpl. James Elden Moore, U.S.M.C.R., only son of Mrs and the late Mr Paul Moore, of Moberly, Missouri, U.S.A., was recently celebrated at St Mary's Catholic Church, Carterton. Father V. J. McGlone officiated. The bride, who was escorted by her father, looked charming in white satin cut on slim fitting lines with full skirt and bishop sleeves. The veil, which was lent by a friend, was held in place with a wreath of orange blossom. She carried a shower bouquet of freesias and maiden hair fern. The bridesmaids, Miss Elma Hanson (chief) and Miss Jacquitine James, sister of the bride, both wore frocks of pink taffeta with bouquets to tone. Their shoulder length veils of pink tulle were held in place by pink camelias. Tech. Sergt. Walter- A. Thompson, U.S.M.C., acted as best man, the groomsman being Mr Noel Castle, of Featherston. A reception was held at the bride’s home where the guests were received by the bride’s mother, who wore a black frock with contrasting shoulderspray. BADMINTON ENJOYABLE MATCHES. In the King's Theatre last night members of the Carterton Badminton Club entertained a number of visitors from Masterton when enjoyable matches were played between teams chosen by Messrs J. E. Dwane and W. Harrington. The former’s team won by 9 matches to 1. Results:—Harrington and Miss B. Peters lost to Dwane and Miss Richards, 15-21; Volheim and Mrs Bruce lost to Carle and Miss G. Harrington, 17-21; O’Neill and Mrs Wells beat Perrin and Mrs McNaught, 21-8; Volheim and Miss Newbould lost to' Carle and Miss Matson, 23-25; O’Neill and Miss Newbould lost to Wilmshurst and Miss Watson, 8-21; Men’s doubles: Harrington and Volheim lost to Dwane and Carle, 17-21; O’Neill and Harrington lost to Perrin and Wilmshurst, 16-21. Ladies’ doubles: Miss Peters and Mrs Bruce lost to Misses Richards and Harrington, 19-21; Mesdames Wells and Bruce lost to Miss Watson and Mrs McNaught, 18-21; Mrs Bruce and Miss Newbould lost to Misses Harrington and McNaught, 18-21. The Carterton members were thanked for their hospitality. It was decided to play another series of matches on October 4. Political Addresses. Tonight Mr Jas. J. Maher (National) will speak at the State Theatre, and tomorrow evening Mr Ben Roberts (Labour) will deliver his final address in the same building. Mr Smithson, Independent candidate for Wairarapa, addressed ;a small audience at the State Theatre on Tuesday evening. He received a patient hearing, at the conclusion of which he was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. Mr E. McKenzie (Deputy Mayor) presided. There was a good attendance of Clareville electors last night to hear a political address by Mr J. Robertson, Labour candidate for the Masterton seat. Mr McKenzie presided. Personal Items. The funeral of the late Mr Charles A. Thomas took place yesterday. A large number of relatives and friends gathered at the home of Mr and Mrs W. G. Thomas, Belvedere, where a short service was held by the Rev. W. F. Stent, who also conducted the service at the graveside. The pall-bearers were Messrs R. and J. Scott, C. H. Smart (Palmerston North), A. Smith, L. Thomas and R. Spora. Daffodil Day, The Carterton branch of the Plunket Society will hold its annual “daffodil day” on Saturday at the residence of Mr and Mrs W. Henry Booth, “Hawarden.” Jersey Bull Show. The Wairarapa Jersey Cattle Club will hold its eighth annual show and sale of pedigree Jersey bulls on the Carterton Showgrounds on Tuesday, October 19. Boy Scouts’ Card Party. The weekly card tournament held by the Boy Scout Committee last evening was well attended. The prizes were won as follows:—Ladies: Mrs J. Hooper, 1; Mrs T. Collerton, 2. Men: Mrs W. Herdman and W. Ticehurst Junr., tied for the first prize.
