SHORTAGE OF FEED

LARGE NUMBER OF STOCK IMPOUNDED. A COUNCILLOR’S ADMISSION. The shortage of feed for cattle which exists in the district was indicated at yesterday afternoon’s meeting of the Masterton County Council when the ranger reported having impounded last month 154 head of stock found grazing at the side of county roads. “There has been a lot of grazing oi stock on the side of the roads,” observed Councillor P. R. Welch. “It has been a real harvest,” said Nr J. C. D. Mackley, County Clerk. “Tae list is the biggest since my association with the county. It indicates the acute shortage of feed.” Laughter was raised when Mr Macsley said that Councillor J. Donald had paid with a smile the 15s fee for two of his cows found on the road. “Did you get your money’s worth?” asked Councillor J. W. Colquhoun. “They were out all the winter,” said Councillor Donald.
