FOR THE ENTERTAINMENT OF TROOPS ANZAC HALL EMERGENCY HOSPITAL. REPLY TO FEATHERSTON REQUEST. The inadequacy of entertainment facilities in Featherston for soldieis on leave, on account of the Anzac Hall at Featherston being used as an cmeigency hospital, was stressed by Miss J. Donald in a letter to the Wairarapa Hospital Board today. Miss Donald suggested that as the hall was not now being used as a hospital the stores in the hall should be moved elsewhere and the hall made available. The Managing-Secretary, Mr Norman Lee, said it would not be possible An emergency hospital was required at Featherston and the equipment could not conveniently be shifted. The chairman, Mr H. H. Mawley, observed that £l9OO had been spent on the place for use as a hospital. The Department of Health wanted the emergency hospital there and he saw no reason for the board changing from that policy. Mr J. F. Thompson said he would like to see the soldiers helped, but the board had to abide by the Department’s direction. t “Is it the men in the camp who warn the hall, or is it the girls in Featherston?” asked Mr Lee. Mrs S. Fletcher said the girls were doing a great job and this was endorsed by Mr Thompson. The board decided to inform Miss Donald that, under an arrangement with the Government, the hall was urgently required to be maintained as an emergency hospital.
