INTERHOUSE AFFAIRS
ANNUAL MEETING HELD LAST NIGHT EXCELLENT WORK RECORDED. DONATIONS TO PATRIOTIC FUNDS There was a large and representative meeting of the business community at the annual meeting of the Wairarapa Interhouse Association held in Masterton last night. Mr L. B. Maunsell presided. General satisfaction was expressed with the stewardship' of the outgoing officials. Mr P. F. Fagan congratulated the association on the splendid result of the year’s working, and Mr A. Corskie said that the association was doing fine work for the youth of the community and the balance sheet was one to be proud of. Messrs Nuttall and C. Allen spoke on similar lines. Mi' Maunsell said he agreed that the committee had done an excellent job. Mr G. Daubney, chairman of the executive committee, thanked the speakers for their remarks. Since 1939 the funds had been built up from £l6 to £BOO and considerable sums had been donated to patriotic funds, amounts had been invested in War Loans and teams assisted in finding the cost of their uniforms. The election of officers resulted: — President, Mr L. B. Maunsell; vicepresidents, Messrs H. P. Hugo, J. H. Cunningham, P. F. Fagan, J. T. Jameson and A. Corskie; general committee, Messrs G. Davis, F. Stains, W. Flaws, L. Askew, Parsons, J. Bruce, G. Daubney, W. L. Butler, Cathie, J. Jameson, Misses Hodges and Wilkinson. Mr A. Owen Jones was re-elected hon auditor and Mr H. H. Daniell was re-elected hon solicitor. Reference was made to the work of the Interhouse concert party, under the leadership of Mrs Miller Hope; Mr R. Pawson, a retiring committeeman, and to the cooperation of the Masterton Amateur Athletic Club. ANNUAL REPORT. The annual report of the Wairarapa liiterhouse Association records continued progress despite difficulties. The annual gala weekend on November 28, 1942, was an outstanding success. Thanks were expressed to the Trentham Military Band and the 2ZB radio party for their assistance and from the concert held £155 was handed to the local Patriotic Fund. Owing to the bad swimming season entries for the women’s events were down. The help of Misses Stephenson and Taylor, of the Physical Welfare and Recreation branch was appreciated. Three local teams were assisted to compete at the Wanganui competitions. During March the association combined with others in welcoming visiting service men. The weekly dances at the Masonic Hall had been very successful. The indoor basketball competition proved most successful and visiting service men gave great assistance in refereeing. The interhouse concert party under Mrs Miller Hope had continued its good work. The pianist, Miss Mollie Iveson, was recently farewelled and the association thanked her for her assistance and wished hei’ success in the future.
The report stated that the financial position *was most satisfactory. The committee had taken a long view and a home of their own was the object in view. Considerable sums had been contributed to the Patriotic Funds and as rebates on interhouse uniforms. Not a penny had been wasted in any way. The report stressed the. need of cooperation to enable the association to continue its efforts. In expressing thanks to all who had helped in any way acknowledgement was made of the work of the girls themselves; of the secretary, Mr G. Davis, for his sterling services; the committee, the “TimesAge,” the auditor, Mr A. Owen Jones, and the hon. solicitor, Mr H. H. Daniell.
