Labour Campaign.
Mr J. Robertson, Labour candidate for the Masterton seat, during the past few days has addressed appreciative audiences at Tiraumea, Pukehinau, Waione, Akitio and Aohanga. He was accorded votes of thanks. Social Diseases. All women are invited to attend the League of Mothers’ meeting at the Knox Hall on Wednesday at 2.30 p.m., when Dr. Clara Lee will give an informative address on social diseases which vitally affect the nation. Dr. Lee is an English .doctor and is fully qualified, to speak on this subject. Afternoon tea will be served. Value of Interhouse Drill. “A large number of interhouse girls who were in the marching teams last year’ are now in the Armed Forces and we know that the training they have received from this organisation has been a wonderful help to them. The committee has heard of many instances of this fact,” states a passage in the annual report of the Wairarapa Interhouse Association. Democratic Labour Speaker. Mrs J. A. Lee, wife of the Leader of the Democratic Soldier Labour Party, will be speaking in Masterton bn Saturday evening next. Mrs Lee, who is not unknown to Masterton audiences, is a forceful speaker and will be remembered by many for her talks to women over the commercial radio stations. Odd Fellows’ Dance. The Masonic Hall was crowded on Saturday night when the Masterton Odd Felows’ Lodge held an enjoyable dance. Excellent music was supplied by Mr J. Barnes's Orchestra and extras were played by members of the orchestra. The duties of M.C. were capably carried out by Bro. B. J. Seddon. A Monte Carlo waltz was won by Miss S. McLachlan and Mr Neilson. Supper, was served under the supervision of Sisters Rickards and Brader. National Party Meetings. Political meetings were addressed by Mr G. H. Mackley, National Party candidate for the Masterton seat, at Te Whiti on Saturday afternoon and at Newman on Saturday evening. Messrs H. J. Wardell and J. E. Monoghan respectively presided at the meetings. Votes of thanks and confidence were passed at both meetings. At Te Whiti the motion was moved by Mrs’ T. W. Wardell and seconded by Mr W. Patrick, and at Newman the proposer was Mr J. Reid and the seconder was Mr H. G. Brookes.
