JAPANESE BOASTS
* DEFENCE OF INNER RING AND ANNIHILATION OF BRITAIN & AMERICA. DENUNCIATION OF ITALY. (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) (Received This Day. 11.15 a.m.) NEW YORK, September 9. “Japan will withdraw to a tight inner ring of defences protecting Greater Asia,” said War Vice-Minister KpojiTominaga, over the Tokio radio. "Wlv> should we attempt to hold unimportant islands at the end of long communication lines when they are strategically unimportant?” “It was unpardonable for Italy to surrender without informing her allies beforehand and behind their backs,” said the Tokio official radio, “The Japanese Government has taken the measures considered necessary, after consideration of all eventualities, and hereby declares that this development will not influence the continuation of the war. The Imperial Government, in its firm belief in ultimate victory,” unshakeably resolved to annihilate England and the United States and to draw even closer the ties linking Japan to her allies and the peoples of the East Asia sphere of co-prosper-ity.
