FEATHERSTON

PLUNKET SOCIETY MEETING OF COMMITTEE. (“Times-Age” Special.) At the monthly meeting of the committee of the Plunket Society, Mrs H. R. Bloxam presided. There were also present: Mesdames J. G. McKenzie, G. S. Sharp, M. Turner, J. A. Halpin and V'. Gooding. The nurse’s report for the month stated inter alia:—Cases on books since work began, 1020; babies under supervision, 53; pre-school children, 81. New cases: Babies, 2; children, 2. Visits to homes: Babies, new cases, 15; old cases, 76; children, 1. Visits to rooms: Adults, 80; babies, 67; older children, 11. Eighteen studies for young married women and others, in connection with the campaign for Christian Order, were submitted. It is hoped that at a later date a group study circle will be set up. Wheels and Tires Stolen. A well known motorist in the district met with an unpleasant surprise when entering his garage prior to taking his car out. Some person had visited his garage during the night and was not content with taking his tires, but the wheels as well, and left the vehicle jacked up, minus its wheels. Several cases of tire stealing have been reported, so motorists would be well advised to. fit their garages with locks. Enjoyable Dance. The Junior Patriotic Committee held an enjoyable dance on Saturday night in the Town Hall. The music was supplied by Miss M. Herrick’s Orchestra. Extras were played by Private Drysdale, Corporal Chaplow and Sergeant Simmonds. Mr Peter Habib was M.C. A competition was won by Miss L. Ritchie and Mr C. Anderson. Personal Items. Mr O. Rowe, Palmerston North, is the guest of Mr J. W. Holland. Miss Cowan, Dannevirke, is visiting her sister, Mrs P. Luke-Smith. Mrs A. Jensen has returned home from a visit to Tokomaru. COSY THEATRE “WINGS AND THE WOMAN.” On Wednesday night there will be shown the brilliant drama of the sky, “Wings and the Woman,” featuring Anna Neagle and Robert Newton.
