WAR ANNIVERSARY SERVICE OF PRAYER. ■ i (“Times-Age” Special.) There was a large and representative congregation including the Mayor and councillors at St. Cuthbert’s An- ■ glican Church when a combined service was held to celebrate the fourth anniversary of the war. The prayers were read by the Rev. J. C. W. Mutter and the lesson by the Rev. Utting. The Rev. D. McNeur preached the sermon. A collection was taken up in aid of the sick and wounded. WOMEN’S INSTITUTE MONTHLY MEETING. Mrs E. Albretchsen presided over a good attendance of members at the monthly meeting of the Women’s Institute The report of the North and South Island Dominion conferences was read by the secretary. The resignation of the secretary, Mrs Sturgeon, was accepted with regret. Mrs Schormann, on behalf of the members thanked Mrs Sturgeon for the work she had done as secretary during tne past two years. Two vocal solos were nicely rendered by Miss Jill Hart. The Roll Call was “After-war Suggestions.” Birthday posies were presented to three members whose birthdays' will take place this month. A bouquet of spring flowers is to be sent to an honorary member in celebration of her birthday. Mrs B. Morris demonstrated the making of mats from scraps of material, old stockings, etc. Some beautiful mats were on display. Mrs Morris was accorded a vote of thanks. The competitions were won as follows: —Premier bloom: Mrs M. Morris and Mrs Higginson, equal, 1; Mrs Baucke, 2; Mrs Carter, 3. Three flowers: Mrs M. Morris and Mrs Higginson (equal), 1; Mrs Hart, 2; Mrs Baucke, 3. Child’s article: Mrs B. Morris, 1 and 2. Knitted socks: Mrs C. Farrow, 1; Mrs B. Morris, 2; Mrs F. Hooper, 3. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mrs Sturgeon and Mrs 'D. Clivant.
