EIGHT INCHES IN HUTT VALLEY DURING WEEKEND STORM. DAMAGE IN WELLINGTON AREA. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The Wellington district suffered an unpleasant weekend, a south-easterly reaching gale force on Saturday night, with ■ heavy rain throughout Saturday and Sunday. The total fall- in Wellington was an inch and a half, but the Hutt Valley had ah exceptional rainfall, totalling over 8 inches. There was much flooding of roads and gardens but the Hutt River did not reach a dangerous height. Many power and telephone lines were brought down by the gale. Several boats in Evans Bay were damaged and’one sank. Some delays occurred in the Wairarapa railway traffic.
