FEATHERSTON
POLITICAL MEETING ADDRESS BY HON. J. O’BRIEN. (“Times-Age” Special.) New Zealand at war and at work was dealt with by the Hon. J. O'Brien, Minister of Transport, when he addressed a political meeting in Featherston last night. The Mayor, Mr J. W. Card, presided. The Labour candidate for the Wairarapa seat. Mr B. Roberts, was present and spoke briefly. Mr O’Brien referred to wnat New Zealand had done in the last four years by putting up the world’s record in production and military achievement, which should stir the blood of any New Zealander. The speaker was accorded a vote oi thanks. Services Club. Since its inauguration several hundreds of members of the armed forces have been entertained by the Services Club. This club is staffed by voluntary helpers who give several hours a week to entertain the forces. Dances are held every evening and games are organised. There is a well supplied writing room, a large table tennis and games room and a spacious dining room. Those who visit the club speak highly of the manner in which it is conducted. Red Cross Euchre Party. There was a very large attendance at the euchre party held in the Red Cross Society’s rooms. The winner was Mrs McKenna. The raffles were won by Mesdames W. Mellish and Viles. Donations were received from Mesdames Evans, N. Mathews and C. Cross. Personal Items. Mr and Mrs T. G. Hardie, Wallace Street, have returned home after a visit' to Auckland. Mrs R. Nicholls, Hayward _ Street, have returned home from Wellington. Miss G. Fraser, Fitzherbert Street, is touring the North Island. Mrs Gardiner, Wellington, is the guest of Mrs R. Chisholm, Wallace Street. COSY THEATRE “MUTINY ON THE BOUNTY.” Tomorrow night the sensational drama, “Mutiny on the Bounty,” will be shown, with Clark Gable, Charles Laughton and Franchot Tone in the leading roles.
