ORDER OF ODD FELLOWS LOYAL HEART OF OAK LODGE. (“Times-Age” Special.) P.G. Bro. W. McPherson, N.G., presided over the quarterly summoned meeting of Loyal Heart of Oak Lodge of Odd Fellows. P.G. Bro. R. J. Wallis, Hawera, who has been on the sick funds, declared off. A report was received that P.G. Bro. •Jas. F. Wallis, who is an inmate of the Greytown Hospital, was doing as well as could be expected. Two members residing in Shannon made application to join the Wellington District Hospital Association. The application was granted subject to certain conditions. It was resolved that the secretary make arrangements to dispatch Christmas presents to members serving with the armed forces overseas. Call to Prayer, The Mayor, Mr D. L. Taverner, requests Carterton business people to close their premises on Friday between 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. in order to enable those who so desire to attend the King’s call to prayer. A united service will be held in the Anglican Church from 1.15 p.m. to 1.45 p.m. Borcugh Council Meeting. The montnly meeting of the Carterton Borough Council will be held tonight. Personal Items. The funeral of the late Mrs Kate Ann Johnson, who died at the Masterton Hospital, took place at the Clareville cemetery yesterday, and was well attended. The pall-bearers were Messrs August, Valentine, Bernard and John Lipinski. The service at the graveside was conducted by the Rev. Father Touhey, assisted by Father McGlone, of St. Mary’s Church. 'The funeral of the late Mrs J. Lipinski, of South Carterton, took place at the Clareville cemetery. The pallbearers were Messrs J. Hayes, F. Smugai, T. Max, and B. Lipinski. The Rev. Father McGlone officiated at the graveside. Mrs J. McKenna and Mrs W. Birkett, of Martinborough, returned home today after having spent a fortnight’s holiday in Tauranga. Jubilee of Women’s Franchise. On Friday at the Masonic Hall, Carterton, a meeting will be held to celebrate the jubilee of the granting to the women of New Zealand the right to vote. The speaker will be Miss Kirk, , of Wellington. Championship Ball. Tomorrow evening at the State Theatre, the Carterton Football Club will hold its championship ball, to , commemorate the winners of the Wairarapa Rugby Union’s senior competition. A strong ladies’ committee .is sparing no effort to make the gathering an outstanding success. The supper will be one of the features of the ball. Members of the Second New Zealand Expeditionary Force, who recently returned from overseas service, will be the guests of the club. Mrs Ashton s Orchestra will supply the dance music.
REGENT THEATRE “MILLION DOLLAR BABY.”
On of the greatest musical shows ever brought to the screen, “Million Dollar Baby,” will be shown tonight. The chief roles are taken by Priscilla Lane, Jeffrey Lynn, Ronald Reagan and May Robson.
