P. AND A. SOCIETY
MEETING AT CARTERTON. ARRANGEMENTS FOR SHOW. (“Times-Age” Special.) Mr J. A. McLeod presided at a meeting of the general committee of the Wairarapa P. and A. Society held at Carterton on Saturday at which further arrangements were made in connection with the show. Sympathetic reference was made by the chairman to the deaths of Mr W. J. Martin, Mrs W. J. Nix and Sub-Lieut. J. Brown. Members stood in silence for a few moments as a mark of respect.
The treasurer reported a credit balahce of £334 Is l()d. The Sheep Dog Trials Association forwarded a permit to hold a sheep dog trial at the show on October 27 and 28. The Valuation Department, Wellington, wrote granting a reduction under Section 52, Valuation of Lands Act, 1925.
The Carterton Municipal Silver Band’s offer to provide music at the show was accepted. It was resolved to make enquiries as to whether the services of the Marine Band could be obtained for the night show.
It was resolved that the secretary arrange for a delegate to attend the annual meeting of the New Zealand Kennel Club at Wellington. One new member was elected, one resignation accepted and one held over for consideration.
Mr P. Bain’s offer of 2 tons of mangolds was received with thanks. It was reported that Mr R. Bassett, who suffered a serious illness recently and was taken to the Greytown Hospital. had returned to his home. It was decided that the secretary write a letter to Mr Bassett wishing him a speedy recovery.
