SHARP RISE IN EWE VALUES
AT CARTERTON STOCK SALE. SLUMP IN HEIFER PRICES. Messrs Wright Stephenson and Co., Ltd., report as follows on their Carterton sale yesterday;—A big entry of dairy stock and sheep came forward. Ewes r.w. b.f. ram, showed a sharp rise in price. Considenng the strong demand for fat sheep, yesterday s prices appeared quite reasonable. Good dairy cows on the drop sold fairly well, but springing heifers slumped badly. Fat ana store cattle made late rates. Pigs were slightly easier. The following are the prices. ■ Sheep: Fat hoggets, 235, 23s 6d. 24s Id to 24s 3d: fat wethers, to 325: fat ewes. 2bs to 275: light fat ewes, to 20s; light fat hoggets, to 20s Gel; m.a. ewes. r.w. S.D. rams. 21s 3d. 24s 27s to 27s 9d; f.m. ewes, r.w. S.D. rams, to 13s; w.w. hoggets, to 15s; b.f. hoggets, to 15s 8d Cattle: Good conditioned Jersey cows, due August. £9. £9 10s. £lO 10s to £l2: Jersey cows, just calved. £9 10s to £9 15s; springing cows, £5 to £7 15s; light condition springing cows, £2 to £5: 3-year Jersey heifers, on drop, £8 15s, £9 5s to £lo' 2-year Jersey heifers, on drop, £6 10s to £8 ss; small 2-year Jersey heifers, springing. £3 to £5; yearling Jersey heifeis, to £3 10s; fat cows. £5 to £6; forward cows. £3 15s to £4 17s: store cows, £2 to £3 ss; cull cows. 10s to 355. Pig’s: Store pigs, 30s to 38s- weaners, good. 24s to 28s 6d: weaners, medium, 18s 6d to 235; weaners, small. 12s to 18s: choppers, 10s to £2.
