National Savings.

National Savings receipts at the Masterton Post Office yesterday amounted to £146, making the total to date for the week £563. Successful Shop Day. A most successful shop day was held in Masterton yesterday by the Masterton branch of the Labour Party. A wide range of useful articles, cakes, produce, etc., met with a ready sale. An industrious team of workers were responsible for the success of the shop day. Catchment District Defined. The constitution of the Manawatu Catchment District is set out in this week’s “Gazette.” The area includes Pahiatua County and Borough, Eketahuna Borough and portions of Eketahuna and Mauriceville counties, besides other areas in Hawke’s Bay and Wellington districts embraced in the drainage area of the Manawatu River. Meeting of Women. Women' friends and supporters of the National Party were addressed by Mr G. H. Mackley, National Party candidate for the Masterton seat, at a meeting held in the Y.M.C.A. rooms yesterday afternoon. There was . an attendance of over 80. Mrs R. Miller presided. An apology for absence, on account of illness, was received from Mrs T. R. Barrer. Mr Mackley was accorded a vote of thanks by acclamation, on the motion of Miss Cameion. Gifts Acknowledged. The matron of Sedgley Home acknowledges with thanks receipt of the following gifts: —Sheep, Messrs Beirill, W. F. McLaren, Hearn Smith; beef, Mrs Hugh Morrison; cakes. Mesdames H. Pavitt, G. Beard, 'H. B. Maunsell, Rishworth, W. H. Edwards, N. H. James and Miss Gray; jam, Mrs I. I. McGregor, Misses Chalmers and Keetly; pikelets, Mrs Styles; cream buns, Anzac Club; eggs, Anonymous; oatmeal and cocoa, Miss Chalmers; entertainment at pictures, Mr H. Reid.
