The heavy rain yesterday afternoon caused the Waiohine River to rise and backed the Mangatarere Stream over the Main Highway. Just before midnight the water was over a foot deep on the highway and drivers had to exercise every care. This morning the water had receded. The low-lying country around Papawai and Morison’s Bush was covered with water in the afternoon. Last night the main street of Greytown was flooded at several points. Dalefield as usual received its share of flood waters and the main road and paddocks near the Dalefield dairy factory were submerged.
