TOWNSWOMEN’S GUILD

MEETING IN MASTERTON.

AN EXCELLENT PROGRAMME.

Mrs Copp presided over the monthly meeting of the Masterton Townswomen's 1 Guild.

One minute's silence was observed out of respect to the memory of Mrs Parsons, a very highly esteemed Guild member who recently died. Mrs Copp gave as her motto, ‘‘We cannot do everything, but we can do our bit.” She congratulated Mrs Jarvis, as producer of the Drama Circle, on the splendid results obtained at the recent concert. It was decided to postpone the annual social till during September. On behalf of the Patriotic Commit- • tec, Mrs Judd thanked members for * their splendid work in making so many - mittens which had been sent to soldiers in camp. The Singing Circle, with Mrs Barnes as accompaniste, rendered two much appreciated numbers. The competition was a “mad hat par- . ade,” the members parading in humorous hats. The first prize was awarded to Mrs E. Jones, the second to Mrs Seaton and the third to Mrs Challis, who wore a hat 45 years old. Mesdames Morton and Mannell were the judges. A humorous sketch entitled “References,” was ably given by Mesdames Diggle, Graham and Brown. Sergeant Magnus, of the U.S. Marines, entertained the members with twenty minutes of humorous sketches and aneetdotes.
