NURSE MARRIED

SISTER CUNDY, OF FEATHERSTON. CEREMONY IN NEW CALEDONIA. (Official War Correspondent, N.Z.E.F.) NEW CALEDONIA. In the open-air setting of the grounds of a general hospital, the second Army wedding of the 3rd (N.Z.) Division in New Caledonia was held on July 15, when Sister Ailsa (Molly) Cundy, N.Z.A.N.S., younger daughter of Mr and Mrs H. W. Cundy, of Featherston, was married to Sergeant William B. Bridger, second son of Mr and Mrs A. E. Bridger, Whakatane. For the ceremony, which was performed by Padre J. D. Frond, of Akaroa, an altar had been erected under a tent roof, the guests being seated in a semi-circle in the sunlit surroundings. Nursing Sisters and W.A.A.C’s. lined the path from the tent to the recreation hut where the wedding breakfast was held. The bride, who wore the white and scarlet dress uniform of the N.Z.A.N.S. and carried a bouquet of white gerberas and lilies, was attended by Sister Barbara Dewes, of Napier, and was given away by her brother-in-law, Corporal L. B. Tilly, of Dannevirke. Sergeant J. Vivian was best man. During the signing of the register a solo was sung by Sister M. Talbot, accompanied by Colonel A. A. Tennent. The guests were received in the Sisters’ recreation hut by Miss D. M. Hall, matron, who acted as hostess. Friends of the bride had decorated the hut with flowers and shrubs and white paper ribbons. A silvery bell hung over the official table. Decorations for the cake —which had been baked at a Field Bakery—had come from New Zealand. (Other items of provincial news will be found on page 4.)
