DAIRY SEASON PREPARATIONS BY FARMERS. (“Times-Age” Special.) Dairy farmers are preparing for the coming season and already some have quite a number of cows in. It is expected that the factory will open about the middle of the month. There has been a general exodus of dairy cows during the past week. The animals on the whole were looking well and had been grazing here during the winter months. Home Guard Dance. Attention is drawn to the euchre party and dance to be held in the local hall on Friday, August 13, under the auspices of the local Home Guard. The local organisation is out to make the affair a success, and it is fully expected that there will be a large attendance. Competitions will be held and liberal prizes are being given. The proceeds are for providing parcels for local service men overseas. Personal items. Mr Geo. Hayward has returned from a visit to Wellington. Seaman Dick Te Whaiti, writing to his father from somewhere in the Pacific, slates that, he 'was in the best of health and wished to be remembered to Pirinoa residents.

Mr Francis To Maori has entered hospital for treatment. Miss B. Carter is staying with Mr and Mrs Papanui, Gladstone. Football and Basketball. A seven-a-side football match and basketball match between the local school and South Featherston will be played at Featherston on Saturday, August 14. Whitebait Season. The whitebait season is now in full swing, but so far no large catches have been made. Flounders are being netted but not in large numbers. However, those caught are of good size. Sawmilling Industry. Two 'sawmilling concerns are now operating in this district. The timber is being milled in the northern part of the valley. Spring Weather. The weather, which has been very wet here during the past week, has improved, and the advent of spring wa? heralded by surfny days.
