PURGE OF GENERALS
PRESAGED BY GOERING. ACCORDING TO CAPTURED OFFICER. (By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright) LONDON, August 1. “Soviet War News” quotes a lieutenant of the 216th German Infantry Division, who went over to the Russians, for the information that Goering recently attended a Berlin meeting of Army officers at which he presaged a purge of senior German Army officers. Goering is stated to have declared that many old school German generals had become bankrupt and had shown themselves incapable of leading military operations under modern conditions.
