MASTERTON ASSOCIATION.

The eighteenth annual meeting of the Masterton Girl Guides’ Association was held yesterday afternoon in the MacLaron Room of the Knox Sunday School. There were present: Mrs D. Riddiford, Mrs Carne Bidwill (commissioner), Mrs T. Jordan and a good attendance of mothers and others interested. Mrs E. M. Hodder (president) was in the chair. The annual report was read by the commissioner, Mrs A. W. McKenzie, and adopted. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year:—President, Mrs E. M. Hodder; vice-presidents, Mesdames T. Jordan, H. G. Moser, A. Caselberg, J. Caselberg, D. M. Graham, E. G. Norman, Ractliffe, and H. M. A. Major; secretary, Mrs T. L. Parr; executive committee, Mesdames J. Lawsou, C. H. McKenzie, L. Hunter, A. E. Prentice, J. Forsyth, V. H. Heath, A. Corskie, F. J. Traynor, W. B. Gaskin, V. Burridge, H. W. Lindsay, C. R. Mabson, C. K. Burling, H. M. A. Major, J. Robertson, and W. C Day.

The speaker for the meeting was Miss Macrae, Principal of Solway College. She referred to the value of Guide training as education for leisure, and of the great opportunity there would be for guiding after the war, when so many women and girls now working would find themselves with nothing to do. She stressed the value of the Guide motto, “Be Prepared,” and suggested. “Keep your Balance, as a companion motto. A vote of thanks to the speaker was proposed by Mrs T. Jordan and carried. The meeting concluded with the serving of afternoon tea by members of the committee. The annual report stated that the attendance of Guides and Brownies in the Weraiti and Tararua companies and. packs bad been very good throughout the year. The captains, Mrs Hill and Miss Ratcliffe, reported a roll of 26 and 27, respectively. The two Brownie packs had a membership of 37. These figures show a slight drop on those of last year, which for the working of the companies was all to the good. Except in Miss Mannell’s pack the rolls arc closed, and there is a long waiting list.
