ENGLAND V. DOMINIONS MATCH IN AID OF RED CROSS. BIG FIRST INNINGS LEAD. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Received This Day. 10.50 a.m.) LONDON, August 2. There was an attendance of 26,000 at Lords to see the first day’s play in the match between England and the Dominions in aid of the Red Cross. The English team included seven players with Test experience. The Dominions’ eleven, under the captaincy of an Australian Air Force member, K. Carmody, included five Test men —the New Zealander, Lieutenant C. S. Dempster, one South African and three West Indians. During an interval the teams were presented to the Duke of Gloucester. Ames, in compiling a dashing century, hit two sixes and eleven fours. Scores:— • England, first innings, nine wickets for 324, declared (Squadron Leader L. Ames 133, Sergeant Instructor D. Compton 58, Major E. R. Holmes 39). Dominions, first innings, 115 (Carmody 43, Dempster 18).
