GOOD WAR RECORD

CLAIMED FOR AUSTRALIAN SHIPPING. (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright! (Received This Day, 12.40 p.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. When the war ended and statistics could be published, it would be found that Australian shipping had carried more tons to the mile than that of any ether belligerent country, said the Commonwealth Director of Shipping, Sir Thomas Gordon. In the past 12 months, millions of tons of cargo had been handled at Australian ports. “Australia has little to complain about regarding shipping supplies from overseas,” said Sir Gordon. “There have been more ships in Australia than there has been produce to fill them with.”

Sir Thomas added that the gang system of waterside labour had enabled a quicker turn around of vessels.
