SEED POTATOES

SUPPLIES STILL AVAILABLE FOR HOME GARDENERS BUT SHORTAGE POSSIBLE LATER. STATEMENT BY MINISTER OF AGRICULTURE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Referring to the supply of seed potatoes for home gardeners, the Minister of Agriculture, Mr Barclay, stated today that, while the market still has supplies, there is a possibility that later in the season seed potatoes may be in short supply, due to the greatly increased acreage required to be planted by commercial growers to meet the needs of the Allied armed forces next season. In urging home gardeners to secure supplies as early as possible, the Minister said one could not predict how long seed potatoes would still be available from retailers.
