ANGRY PROTEST

AGAINST DENUNCIATION OF FRANCO MADE TO AMERICAN STATE DEPARTMENT. MEXICAN MINISTER’S PLAIN LANGUAGE. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 11.25 a.m.) WASHINGTON, July 21. The Spanish Ambassador protested strongly to the State Department against the Bastille Day speech broadcast to France by the Mexican Ambassador, Don Francisco Castillo Najera, in which he called General Franco a traitor and puppet. The broadcast was arranged by the United States Office of War Information. Don Napera was formerly Mexican Minister to France. He is reported to be highly regarded by the French people. After referring contemptuously to Mussolini, Don Najera said General Franco was another traitor and puppet of the Uhlans. He had caused Spain to fall into a black era of servitude.
