ROAD IMPROVEMENTS

BOROUGH ENGINEER PREPARING PLAN CONGERTED ACTION PROPOSED. MAYOR OUTLINES POSITION. A plan embodying town improvements approved in principle by the Masterton Borough Council recently is being prepared by the Borough Engineer. Mr C. R. Mabson, with a view to carrying out the council’s decisions, which involve street widening and improved street access to the north and south end of Queen Street. This information was given this morning by the Mayor, Mr T. Jordan, who said that it would be undesirable to carry out the widening and other work proposed piecemeal. It would be better, if a loan were necessary, to raise one loan to cover the whole of the proposals and consequently the engineer had been asked to prepare a plan, so that the whole of the work could be dealt with collectively. Negotiations, said Mr Jordan, were proceeding with some of the property owners concerned in the widening of Park and Bannister streets. The council was 'anxious to give every facility to property owners in arranging tenancies and the plan, upon which further action depended, would be prepared as soon as possible.
