CHILDREN’S PARTY

AT ST. MATTHEW’S COLLEGE. A LARGE ATTENDANCE. There were over one hundred and twenty children present at the annual plain and fancy dress children’s dance held by the Parents’ Association of St. Matthew’s Collegiate School for Girls in the College Assembly Hall on Saturday afternoon. The members of the Parents’ Association (for which Mrs H. P. Hugo has ably carried out the duties of secretary for some years) had the arrangements complete in every detail, and spared no pains to see that the children enjoyed themselves, being warmly congratulated on their efforts. It was one of the most successful and most enjoyable parties ever held at St. Matthew’s College, and the attendance was the biggest recorded over a long period of years. The parents and friends of the pupils were received and warmly welcomed by the Principal (Mrs M. Cleghorn). An excellent programme of dances and games had been drawn up and was capably supervised by Miss Lloyd (sports mistress), assisted by Mrs Messenger. The children entered heartily into the games and dances and thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The music for two school items was played by Mrs Messenger, and that for the games and dancing by Mr B. Iveson, an extra being played by a College pupil. Many pretty and excellently designed costumes were in evidence among the children. Very appetising refreshments were provided for the children and adults, and altogether the 1943 gathering will go down in the history of St. Matthew’s College as one of the most outstanding events in connection with that institution. A pleasing feature in connection with the dance was the fact that children of former pupils of the school were present.
