LADIES’ ASSOCIATION

CHAMPIONSHIP COMPETITIONS. WON BY EXCELSIOR TEAMS. Tho Wairarapa Ladies’ Associations championship competitions were brought to a conclusion on Saturday afternoon. Both the senior and junior competitions were won by the Excelsior Club. The senior team has for some seasons played consistently good hockey, giving such finished displays that opponents, good as they were, found them almost unbeatable. This season though the war resulted in the loss of one or two prominent players, the team, thanks to skilful instruction and an eagerness to put into practice the advice given them, had no difficulty in obtaining premier honours, playing fast and clever hockey. The junior team also played splendid hockey during the season and at times there was individual play equal to that found in the senior grade. In tho Wairarapa College-Carterton game, Pat Gemmell, a member of the former team, received ’a severe blow over one eye, resulting in medical attendance being required and stitches put into the wound. Results were as follow: — I SENIOR LADIES. Excelsior 7, Carterton B 0. College 3. Carterton A 3. Greytown beat Kia Ora. JUNIOR LADIES. Excelsior 6, College B 0. Sincerity 10. Carterton 0. College A a bye.
