HARRIER ACTIVITIES
KIATERE CLUB. SENIOR AND JUNIOR RACES. On Saturday afternoon the members and supporters of the Kiatere Harrier Club spent a very enjoyable time, the occasion being an invitation by the club captain, W. McDonald and Mrs McDonald, to hold a run from their residence. The course, which was laid by c. Summers and K. Greaves, embraced a good variety of country and covered a distance of 24 miles. The juniors completed one lap and the seniors two laps. In the junior race, K. Greaves (off 2 min.) ran a good race to beat his comarker, A. Pickett, by 200 yards, with N. Jacobsen (scr.) third. Detailed results are as follow:—K. Greaves (2 mins.), 22 mins., 1; A. Pickett (2 mins.), 22 mins. 59 secs.), 2; N. Jacobsen (scr.), 23 mins. 17 secs., 3. Fastest times: N. Jacobsen, 20.47; K. Greaves, 21.30; A. Pickett, 22.59.
The senior competition resulted in a brilliant win for G. M. Fitzgibbons, with G. Hayes second and K. Bullock third. Detailed results: G. M. Fitzgibbons (2.50), 44.15, 1; G. Hayes (2.30), 44.52, 2; K. Bullock (3.0), 46.19, 3. Fastest times: G. M. Fitzgibbons, 43.25; G. Hayes, 43.42; ,K. Bullock, 45.59. The runners and supporters were later entertained at afternoon tea. Trophies for the first and second runners in each race, and a consolation prize won by D. Stewart, were presented by Mrs McDonald. Mr Askew (club president) thanked Mr and Mrs McDonald for their hospitality, and Mr McDonald suitably replied. Next Saturday a teams’ race will be held, starting from the Park at 2.30 p.m. A training run will be held on Thursday night, at 7.30 o’clock. (
