GENERAL ELECTION
DEMOCRATIC LABOUR PARTY. SELECTION FOR MASTERTON. (By Telegraph-Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The Democratic Labour Party through its Dominion secretary, Mr F. M. Earle, last night announced the names of general election candidates for the Masterton. Pahiatua. and Hawke's Bay seats. They are:— Masterton: Aircraftman Donald A. Thompson, aged 32, a farmer in civil life, born in Masterton, married, with two children. Pahiatua: Mr Edward Ellis. Palmerston North, a member of a pioneer family, served four years in the Great War. Hawke’s Bay: Mr John H. Winter, D.C.M.. Tutira. serving on Gallipoli and in Flanders during the Great War. MID-CANTERBURY SEAT. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) ASHBURTON, July 16. Flying Officer David Barnes, R.N.Z.A.F.. Timaru, has been selected as the official Labour candidate for Mid-Canterbury. Mr Earnes was M.P. for Waitaki from 1935 to 1938.
