HIGH UNITED STATES OFFICIALS PRESIDENT CONDEMNS AIRING OF DISPUTES. SWEEPING REORGANISATION. (By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright) WASHINGTON, July 15. President Roosevelt, in a sweeping reorganisation on the home front, relieved the Vice-President, Mr Henry Wallace, and also Mr Jesse Jones, of the responsibility for foreign economic warfare. Mi- Roosevelt abolished the Bureau of Economic Warfare and transferred its functions and also the functions of all subsidiaries dealing with foreign economic matters to the Office of Economic Warfare, which he created under the leadership of Mr Leo T. Crowley, who is at present the Alien Property Custodian. Mr Roosevelt, in identical letters to Messrs Wallace and Jones for publicly airing a dispute concerning the purchases of foreign strategic material. The White House made public a Presidential letter to the heads of all Government Departments and agencies telling them that if they disobey Mr Roosevelt’s previous instructions to bring interdepartmental disputes to him before airing them in the Press he expects them to send in their resignations immediately. •Mr Roosevelt, in identical letters o Messrs Wallace and Jones, said he had come to the conclusion that the unfortunate acrimonious and public debate between them made it necessary in the public interest to transfer administration of foreign economic affairs to other hands. He added: "My action is not intended to decide who is right, but to clear the deck and get on with the war at once. This requires a fresh start with new men unencumbered by dissension and bitterness.”
