HOME GUARD

FINE SPIRIT PRAISED. COMMENT BY PRIME MINISTER. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, July 10. The fine spirit of the Home Guard was commented upon today by the Prime Minister, Mr Fraser, who said it was quite clear that the compulsory parade each quarter had been accepted as a minimum training period, but practically all units had expressed the wish to undertake additional activities.

“The Government fully appreciates this spirit on the part of the various Home Guard units,” he said, “and is prepared to give their efforts all possible support by making available the necessary means for carrying out wider and the more intensive work than involved in “quarterly parade.”
