Miss Nancy Carrick, Upper Plain, has returned to Masterton from a visit to Wellington. Mrs P. Kummer, Church Street, Masterton, is’staying with Mrs G. Cunningham, Tauranga. Lieutenant J. B. Cotterill, M.P. for Wanganui for the past seven years, has again been nominated to contest the Wanganui seat as the Labour Party can. didate at the general election. Messrs R. Smith and B. Catt left Carterton this morning en route to Auckland on a fortnight’s holiday. Mrs Smith accompanied them to Palmerston North. She will go on to Hawera, where she will spend a fortnight. The selection of a candidate to carry the National Party’s banner in the Manawatu electorate is to be made this week. The choice will lie between Messrs M. H. Oram, W. E. Barnett and D. Rowe.
The death has occurred of Mr W. M. Park, of the staff of the Defence Department, Wellington. Mr Park was born in Wellington 53 years ago, and was educated at the Wellington College. He gained a commission in the last war.
