GENERAL GIRAUD

, —— —fo. — — VISITING CANADA SOON AFTER WASHINGTON TALKS. ( MISSION PURELY MILITARY. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 11.45 a.m.) RUGBY, July 8. It is announced in Ottawa that General Giraud is tp visit Canada after his talks in Washington. A correspondent says General Giraud's Washington visit has provided a remarkable demonstration of unity among Frenchmen in the United States. Prominent supporters of General de Gaulle were among the first to greet General Giraud, and one of their spokesmen said they would give him the same allegiance as that given to General de Gaulle. Mr Cordell Hull (Secretary of State) said today he hoped the State Department would soon be able to make an announcement about Martinique. He pointed out that as General Giraud’s visit was purely military, political questions could not be discussed with him.
