DIPHTHERIA OUTBREAK

LAST CARRIER REPORTED ON JUNE 29. INOCULATION OF CHILDREN PROCEEDING. “As far as I can see the diphtheria outbreak in Masterton has been arrested,” said Mr T. A. Russell, Borough Health Inspector this morning. “The last carrier was discovered on June 29 and we have had no positive swabs since then,” Mr Russell added. The inoculation against diphtheria of school and pre-school children whose ages range from 3 to 7 years is being carried out in Masterton at present by Dr. Mulholland, school doctor, and Nurse Craig, district nurse. The work is being. done with the consent of the children’s parents. This morning children at the Central School up to seven years of age were inoculated and a start was made later with pre-school children. This afternoon children at Whatman School were treated and tomorrow a large number of children will be treated at the Plunket rooms.
