WORMS IN TROUT
INVESTIGATIONS AT KOURARAU. At a recent meeting of the North Wairarapa branch of the Wellington Acclimatisation Society reference was made to fish in the Korarau dam as being badly worm infested. A resolution was passed that the society be asked to secure the services of Dr. Richardson, of the Victoria University to investigate the matter. At a meeting in Masterton last night Dr. Richardson was present and said his students would be pleased to investigate the matter under his supervision. He said he wanted female samples of the worm to identify the species as there were 7.000 different species of worm. The trouble at Korarau could be cured but it was first necessary to find the "host” responsible for introducing the worm into the dam. Animals and particularly bird life could be responsible. Dr. Richardson spoke of his experience in Canada and showed many lantern slides. He said fishing was never good when there were plenty of waterfowl, etc. Experience had proved that waterfowl were the host of worms.
