EUCHRE PARTY & DANCE BACHELORS AND SPINSTERS. (“Times-Age” Special.) A g’bod attendance greeted the efforts of the bachelors and spinsters when they held a 'euchre party and dance on Wednesday night. Although weather conditions were not favourable, nevertheless the gathering was a most successful one. The prizes at euchre were won by Mesdames W. Taylor and Thorner (ladies) and Messrs J. H. Atkinson and A. C. Burling (men). Consolation prizes were won by Mrs Lovegrove and Mr W. Taylor. Competition winners were Messrs R. Burling (dinner), J. Atkinson (flour), and J .McDonald (cake). Mr Atkinson donated his prize to the committee and this was auctioned, realising a substantial amount. The lucky spot and Monte Carlo dances were won respectively, by Miss A. Mclntosh and R. Burling, and Mrs Evans and partner. Messrs J. Sutton and B. Atkinson carried out the duties of M.C's. capably, and the dance music was supplied by Ashton's Orchestra. The proceeds will be devoted to patriotic purposes. The committee express their deep appreciation of the assistance given in connection with the gathering. Personal Items. Mr G. Ahipene, of an Air Force station, is visiting His parents in this district. Mrs G. O. Sutherland is visiting relatives in Hawke’s Bay. Mr Henderson is staying with relatives at Pirinoa. Mr Eric Rosnell, Nelson, is on a visit to his grandmother, Mrs J. Duggan. Mrs A. C. Burling, who has been staying with her sister, Mrs Hall, Carterton. has returned home. Mr Noel Hume, Masterton, is spending a few days with relatives in Pirinoa. Mr W. Enoka, who has been confined to his bed for the past fortnight, has sufficiently recovered to be able to get about again. Maori War Effort. The Pirinoa Tribal Committee will hold a euchre party and dance in the South Featherston Hall on Thursday, July 1 in aid of the Maori War Effort. Poi and haka dances and vocal and instrumental items will be given. Substantial prizes will be provided for various competitions. A feature of the gathering will be the display of poi dancing by a company of juveniles.
