A holiday crowd of about 20.000 at the R.A.F.” v Army match at Lords saw the New Zealander, L. K. James, who was the • R.A.F. wicket-keeper, catch the first four Army batsmen, all off the bowling of Flight Lieutenant Austin Matthews. The Army declared at eight wickets for 168. The R.A.F. had 95 minutes in which to make 169 and beat the clock by ten minutes, to win by nine wickets. Sergeant L. G. Berry and Squadron Leader W. J. Edrich staged a whirlwind. unfinished stand, putting on the last 114 runs in 44 minutes. Scores were: —
Armv. 8 wickets for 168. declared (Major A. B. Sellers, 35). Matthews too!:. 5 wickets for 41 runs. R.A.F., one wicket for 169 (Berry, not out. 73: Edrick, not out, 53).
