GENERATING UNIT

TROUBLE AT ARAPUNI. MACHINE BEING DISMANTLED. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. A statement that one of the big generating units in the Arapuni power station had broken down was made last night by the Minister of Works, Mr Semple, and the Minister of Supply and Munitions, Mr Sullivan. The extent of the damage has not yet been ascertained, as the engineers have not completed the dismantling of the machine to locate the fault. The Ministers indicated that this accident will mean a cut in electric power consumption of from 7 to 10 per cent for at least two days, and possibly for an even longer period.
