FAKED PETROL COUPONS
USED*RECENTLY IN WAIRARAPA.
FIFTY GALLONS OF SPIRIT OBTAINED.
Fifty gallons of petrol were sold by a Wairarapa garage last month as the result of the presentation of faked coupons, which were not detected at the time of presentation. The coupons had the numbers changed to represent 26, the number valid last month. This was done by neatly cutting out the numeral not wanted and replacing it with a six from another coupon. It appears, also, that a rough imitation of the Post Office stamp with which this year’s coupons are marked was also made on the coupons, probably by means of a lino cut or some similar method.
In view of this discovery, retailers and motorists generally are advised to examine carefully all coupons that they may handle.
