Mr and Mrs Mark Castle, Makuri, are visiting Masterton. Miss Jean Forbes, Wellington, is the guest of Mr and Mrs M. J. Jackson.

Mrs S. Ronaldson, Essex Street, Masterton, is leaving today on a visit to Paraparaumu Beach. Mrs F. W. Joblin, College Street, Masterton, is staying with the Rev. V. W. Joblin and Mrs Joblin, Raetihi. Mr S. S. Dean has been re-elected chairman of the New Zealand Rugby Union. He has occupied the office for 22 years. Mr J. D. OConnor, retired postmaster, of Masterton, has been appointed local organiser of the Third Liberty Loan campaign.

The Rev James Cumming of Masterton will attend the annual meeting of the Central Baptist Union auxiliary at Wellington tomorrow night. At a meeting of the council of the Nev/ Zealand Rugby Union yesterday, Mr E. McKenzie, of Carterton, was presented with a life member’s badge. The engagement is announced of Mollie, only daughter of Mr and Mrs B. Iveson, Essex Street, Masterton, to Henry Malcolm, elder son of Mrs and the late Mr V. O. Ervin, Terry, Mississippi, U.S.A. The engagement is announced of Margaret, twin daughter of Mr and Mrs R. Newport, of Nelson, to Newman Ronald Hoar, R.N.Z.A.F., only son of Mr and Mrs F. Hoar, Colombo Road, Masterton.

The Wellington East seat, which is held by the Minister of Works, Mr Semple, is to be contested at the general election by Mr L. T. Jacobsen, a Wellington business man, who was recently selected as the official National candidate.

Mr Alan Leslie, F.R.C.V.S., chief veterinary surgeon of the Taranaki Federation of Dairy Factories, was elected president of the New Zealand Veterinary Association at the annual meeting of the association in Wellington this week.

Mr R. G. Young, North Island secretary of the Real Democracy Movement, is in Master ton in the course of an organisation tour of the Wairarapa. Mr Young is a well-known Waikato farmer and local body member. He is chairman of the Taupiri Drainage and River Board, a member of the Waikato County Council, and also of the Central Waikato Power Board. He is the official R.D.M. candidate for the Hauraki seat at the forthcoming general election.
