WEDDING
JACKSON—SUTHERLAND. A wedding of local interest took place yesterday at St. Matthew's Church, Masterton, the contracting parties being Olga Dorothy, elder daughter of Mr and. Mrs D. D. Sutherland, Upper Plain, and Ross McKenzie, second son of Mr and Mrs Ross Jackson, Wangaehu. The service was conducted by the Ven. Archdeacon E. J. Rich, and Mr Miller Hope presided at the organ. During the signing of the register, Miss Eileen Johns sang in Latin, “Ave Maria.” The church had been beautifully decorated for the occasion by friends of the bride.
The bride, who was escorted, by her father, was attired in a charming gown of white plush velvet, trimmed with silver lace and cut on Victorian lines. The full train, which was scolloped, fell in graceful-folds. Her beautiful scolloped tulle veil (which was lent by a friend) was worn over her face and held in place with a halo of white orchids. The bride also wore a gold locket, the gift of the bridegroom, and carried a beautiful bouquet of orchids, chrysanthemums and maidenhair fern held in place with white ribbon and tulle.
The bride’s attendants were Miss Hazel Sutherland (chief), sister of the bride, and Miss Helen Jackson, sister of the bridegroom. They were dressed alike in frocks of white organdie, cut on mid-Victorian lines, with large bishop sleeves, and trimmed with white velvet bows and buttons and several rows of pintucking. Their picture hats were made of net and trimmed with white bows. They also wore gold bracelets, the gift of the bridegroom, and carried shower bouquets of cyclamen and maidenhair fern. Mr Donald Jackson, brother of the bridegroom, acted as best man, and the duties of groomsman was carried out by Mr Trevor Weber, a cousin of the bride. At the reception held later in the Masonic Hall, Mrs Sutherland received the guests attired in a royal blue ensemble with navy accessories and a shoulder spray. She was assisted by Mrs Jackson, who wore a teal blue suit with accessories and a shoulder spray to match. Mr and Mrs R. M. Jackson left later for the South by plane, the bride travelling in a powder blue frock and coat with mulberry accessories.
