FEATHERSTON

RED CROSS SOCIETY EUCHRE PARTY. (“Times-Age” Special.) There was a good attendance at the Red Cross Society’s euchre party yesterday afternoon. The winner at cards was Miss Nix. A competition was won by Mrs McMullen. Donations were received from Mesdames O’Neale, N. Matthews, C. J. Carlyon and Arch. Clark. Service Men Entertained. > Mr and Mrs D. H. Riddiford, Longwood, entertained a party of convalescent service men recently when a very enjoyable time was spent. Personal Items. The funeral of the late Mr William Clelland took place on Saturday afternoon at the Featherston Cemetery. The Rev. H. Bloomfield conducted the services at the house and graveside. The late Mr Clelland was born in Dairy, Scotland, 77 years ago and had lived in the house in which he was born in till he left for New Zealand 6 years ago, coming to Featherston to reside. He is survived by his widow, 2 sons (Messrs William and Alex Clelland), 2 daughters (Mrs J. McCallum and Mrs A. Gooding, Featherston). The pall-bearers at the funeral were Messrs William and Alex. Clelland, J. McCallum, A., V., and M. Gooding. Mrs and Miss Allender (Day’s Bay), Mr and Miss McKay (Day’s Bay), Mrs I. McKinnon (York Bay), Miss Peggy Heyder (Masterton), Mr and. Mrs A. McLean (Wanganui), Mr and Mrs A. Wilkie (Hastings), Mrs Cyril Wilkie (Hastings), and Mrs J. Sadler (Hastings) were among the guests of Mr and Mrs C. J. Nix for the Nix—Pitts wedding last Saturday. Patriotic Work. Among the articles made and despatched to headquarters by the Featherston sub-centre of the Red Cross Society during the past month were 102 face cloths, 20 hospital articles,. 18 hospital bags, 5 pairs of pyjamas, 9 handkerchiefs and 1 pullover. COSY THEATRE “LYDIA.” One of the most outstanding dramas ever brought to the screen, “Lydia,” will be shown at the Cosy Theatre tomorrow night. Brilliant acting by Merle Oberon, Alan Marshall, Edna May Oliver and Joan Halliday make it a picture which should not be missed.
