EKETAHUNA

FAREWELL PRESENTATION TO MR R. PAYNE. (“Times-Age” Special.) The Eketahuna Athletic Club made a presentation to Mr R. Payne, who is leaving to take up a position in Otaki. Mr C. H. Parsons, in making the presentation, referred to the excellent work that Mr Payne had carried out in the interests of the club, both as secretary and as president and wished him, on behalf of the club members, the best of luck in his new position. Several other members spoke in a similar strain.

Mr J. H. Handyside, manager for Messrs A. H. Herbert & Co., on behalf of the staff, presented Mr R. Payne, who had been in charge of the drapery department for eight years and who is leaving to manage a drapery business in Otaki, a hanging mirror as a token of esteem. Mr Handyside wished Mr and Mrs Payne good health and success’ in the future.

Auxiliary member, Sergeant R. Payne, was entertained at a gathering by the honorary auxiliary and active members of the Eketahuna Fire Brigade, at which Superintendent H. E. Rogers made him a presentation. It is worthy of note that Mr and Mrs R. Payne have four sons on active service overseas and one in camp. They all received their education at the Eketahuna District High School. Mr Payne was a member of the local school committee for several years. Personal Items. Phyllis Mason, the twelve-year-old daughtei’ of Mr and Mrs Mason, while on her way to school had the misfortune to fall from her bicycle and break one of her arms above the elbow. She is a patient in the Masterton Hospital. The many friends of Mr H. W. Jefferies, of the staff of the Tarawa Electric Power Board, will regret to hear ] he is ill and is confined to his bed. i Mr H. Herbert, Hastings, is the ) guest of Mr and Mrs M. R. Herbert, Alfredton Road.

Mrs Aitcheson, Hawke's Bay, is the guest of her mother, Mrs Houlbrooke, Alfredton Road. Mr D. Butcher was the winner of the men’s prize at a flag 500 party held on Saturday evening.
