TRANSPORT LICENSING
INADEQUATE RAIL SERVICE. DISTRICT BADLY SERVED. The inadequacy of the rail service to the Wairarapa was stressed by Mr T. Jordan at a sitting of the No. 2 Transport Licensing Authority, Mi’ P. J. Skoglund, at Masterton yesterday afternoon. Mr Skoglund agreed with Mr Jordan that the district was badly served.
In granting the reinstatement of a road service operated by J. E. Wrigley between Palmerston North and Masterton, the authority said it was puzzling to him why he was instructed to suspend the service because it was running parallel with the railway line, yet in other parts similar conditions obtained but the services were not suspended. The transfer of a passenger service from Fly and Savage to Martin Smith was granted. An amendment to a passenger service licence held by Fly and Savage was granted.
